Beyond Lithium Summit 2026

Building India’s Multi-Chemistry Storage Future
NETRA – Net-zero Energy Transition Association presents the Beyond Lithium Summit 2026, a focused technology-to-application forum for India’s emerging multi-chemistry energy-storage ecosystem.
As India expands renewable-energy capacity, strengthens energy security, and prepares for long-duration storage requirements, the storage conversation must move beyond lithium-ion alone. The summit will bring together policymakers, researchers, technology developers, manufacturers, utilities, project developers, investors, and industry leaders to examine commercially viable, India-relevant non-lithium storage pathways.
The event will explore how alternative storage technologies can support grid resilience, renewable-energy integration, domestic manufacturing, critical-mineral security, and new commercial opportunities across the country.

Summit Objective
The Beyond Lithium Summit 2026 will assess the readiness, economics, deployment potential, and policy requirements of storage technologies beyond lithium-ion. It will connect technology development with real-world applications, pilot projects, manufacturing opportunities, supply chains, safety, standards, recycling, and long-duration energy-storage policy.
The summit will cover:
- Sodium-ion batteries
- Flow batteries, including vanadium redox technologies
- Iron- and zinc-based battery systems
- Aluminium-air technologies
- Solid-state and silicon-enhanced battery cells
- Pumped-hydro storage
- Compressed-air, thermal, mechanical, and other non-electrochemical storage technologies
- Long-duration energy storage (LDES) applications and policy
Conference Sessions
1. From Lithium Dominance to a Multi-Chemistry Approach
This opening session will examine the policy landscape, government R&D initiatives, global market status, and the bankability of non-lithium energy storage in India. It will also assess learnings from Indian pilot projects and the importance of a critical-minerals strategy to reduce import dependence.
2. Sodium-Ion Technology
The session will explore sodium-ion technology status, prototypes, pilot projects, global manufacturing developments, Indian localisation potential, and the pathways required to de-risk technology investments.
3. Flow Batteries
Focused on vanadium redox and other flow-battery technologies, this session will cover technology stability, current projects, grid applications, and the journey from pilot demonstration to commercial project pipeline.
4. Iron, Zinc-Based Batteries and Aluminium-Air Technologies
This discussion will focus on the role of start-ups, technology validation, performance guarantees, application-specific technology selection, C&I economics, supply chains, testing, and certification requirements.
5. Solid-State and Silicon-Enhanced Cells: From Lab to GWh
The session will assess cell-performance improvements, duration, capital cost, degradation, safety, emerging applications, technology-readiness levels, market readiness, and investment opportunities.
6. Non-Electrochemical Storage
This session will cover compressed-air energy storage, thermal storage, mechanical storage, pumped-hydro technologies, and their relevance for long-duration energy-storage requirements, grid applications, and DISCOMs.
